Scripture in the Morning #100
Ephesians. 4:26,27 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil.
Ever been around a person who is all wrapped up in the worlds politics and large issues of the world that are problematic? What do they tend to talk about? Well… at least in my experience, they talk about those frustrating issues that they cannot change. And they talk more about it. And complain, vent and well… complain some more. Do you know anyone like that? Is that us? Are we like that?
What should we be talking about?
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Do embittered angry believers tend often to “proclaim His excellencies”?
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
How consistent with “building others up” is complaining about things that anger us?
So, my friends, a consideration for you…
Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
May we include in our prayers the request that God move us with a mind & heart free of dwelling on anger and give us a mind and heart centered upon thanksgiving and excitement over the great privilege of having people around us that we can encourage, bless and serve. May the Lord make us servants who encourage and build others up, proclaiming His excellencies and giving grace to those who hear us speak.
