Scripture in the Morning #112:
1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Matthew 22:37 And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
When we read verses like those above, I pray we respond as follows – "my Lord and my God – I can in no way be obedient in this, I am too self serving." And that should lead us to…
"Lord, by your grace, please move me to consider your glory and the better good of others before my own agenda. Lord, humble me, protect my loved ones from my sin of self servitude, and move me to desire your glory and respect your commands all the more. And Father, please give me daily perseverance to always remember to put you first and to love you by loving and serving others. Lord, make me obedient. Make me a blessing – for your glory and the better good of my loved ones.”
Why then does God command us to do what we cannot do in our own power?
To humble us. To depend upon ourselves less. To move us away from measuring ourselves and our conduct – and instead to move us to consider His power, His holiness and His grace. To move us to pray more. To move us to depend upon Him more. To move us to consider Him more and us less. And in all this – to be blessed by Him.
And there is more. But that is for tomorrow.
For today, may our trust be in Him. May we deeply recognize how amazing it is that God Himself – in the power of the God the Holy Spirit who resides in us – is the author of all that is good in and through us. In this, may all glory and honor by His both now and forever.
Have a wonderful day.
