Scripture in the Morning #125
Today we embark not so much on a new journey as much as it being a new emphasis. The concept in view is still prayer. But now we center on different aspects of prayer.
So… opinion #1 for your consideration. As we enter into prayer, we need to remember that prayer, like all things, has as its highest order purpose the declaration of God’s Glory. This is why we pray prayers of adoration:
Matt 6:9 Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
For your consideration, we need to have deep reverence and awe for God in view as we pray. We are, after all, addressing the infinite God of the universe who has created all things and holds all things together. Consider the words of Jacob in Genesis 32…
Gen 32:9ff And Jacob said, "O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your kindred, that I may do you good,’ I am not worthy of the least of all the deeds of steadfast love and all the faithfulness that you have shown to your servant…
Jacob, by God’s grace at work in him, knew full well that God is awesome and infinite and we are finite and nothing. That level of reverence for the Lord – well… that is what we should pray that we have. May the Lord this day move us to realize how amazing it is that we can talk to Him in prayer. May the Lord instill in us a reverent awe like that which Jacob had that we would realize just who it is we address in prayer. May all glory be onto our Lord, both now and forever.
Have a great day and may your prayers be reverent.
