Scripture in the Morning #126
Luke 11:2 And He said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be your name…”
Deut. 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God…
May the Lord move us to indeed hallow His name in all things – and especially as we pray.
I wonder if you struggle with this. I indeed struggle in this regard; far more often than I should. I often enter into prayer as if I were talking to a friend or another human. Now, at one level, we are to be comfortable with God and being non-formal and natural is as well OK. Where the problem arises is that we are a creature and we are addressing the Almighty. Respect. Reverence. This is what should be. Yet, I far too often address the Lord in prayer in a way that is not reverent. I am, of course, not aware of where you are in this regard. That said, your evaluating the degree of reverence and respect and awe you have in prayer is a wonderfully worthwhile thing to assess.
2 Sam 7:22 Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you…
May the Lord remind each of us of this great reality and may we then approach Him in prayer as a people in reverent awe of His greatness and as a people amazed at how privileged we are to even address Him at all.
Have a wonderful and prayerful day.
