Scripture in the Morning #127
Want a great thing to contemplate as we go into prayer? Well, here you go…
Ps 68:34-35 Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Awesome is God from His sanctuary; the God of Israel—He is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!
When we heap praise upon humans, we call it flattery. It is somehow distasteful to be a flatterer. That said, this is God we are talking about. Proclaiming to yourself His excellencies is a wonderful thing to do. Proclaiming to others His excellencies is perhaps the greatest practical call we have in life. Proclaiming onto God His greatness in prayer is as well a wonderful thing. This is not flattery – it is rightful praise and adoration for He is indeed worthy.
This morning, I would ask you to start by thinking of 3-to-5 things to thank God for. These are things that the Lord has done for you and/or loved ones whereby we take the time to thank Him. That is a good start. Praising God for what He has done is wonderful. But…
We should not stop there.
Let us move beyond thanking and praising God for what He has done and let’s just praise Him for who He is. So, upon finishing your prayers of thanksgiving, I ask that each of you spend time praising the Lord for His greatness.
You can use Psalm 8:1 to get you started…
Psalm 8:1 … O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
Have a wonderful prayer time and a great day!
