Scripture in the Morning #131
“Dear God, enlighten what’s dark in me, strengthen what is weak in me, mend what is broken in me, bind what is bruised in me, heal what is sick in me, and lastly… revive whatever peace and love has died in me.”
Regarding “ mend what is broken in me, bind what is bruised in me…” A consideration for each of you this morning – framed as a series of questions.
If we are wrapped up in our past, and burdened by that past – if we allow the past to drag us down – will we be best suited today to be the blessing to our loved ones we are called to be?
Will we be well equipped to encourage others, to bless others in the Lord – to be a positive spiritual guide and comfort to our loved ones – if we allow ourselves to be burdened by our past?
If we could off-load all that baggage and forget it – would we be well suited to bless our loved ones in the Lord – freed to serve, to love, and to spread the joy of the Lord?I think the answers to the above are obvious. So, the consideration for this morning is this…
Praying for and endeavoring to be freed from the burdens of our past should be motivated by wanting to better serve and love those around us today and tomorrow. Praying for relief from the baggage of our past is not self centered — it is essentially praying for the Lord to best equip us to love, serve, and worship for today – not just for our benefit, but for the benefit of those around us as well. It is, essentially, praying that the Lord equip us to love…
