Scripture in the Morning #187
Another interesting quote to assess, this time from Horatio Bonar. And it is an awesome and challenging one…
“Faith is the acknowledgment of the entire absence of good in us, and the recognition of the Cross as that which fulfills in us all our needs. The whole work of salvation – the whole work of obedience- the whole work of faith itself residing within us – is His. God, by grace, has done it all. The whole work is His in us, not ours, from first to last.”
So much to say here. “Faith is the acknowledgment of the entire absence of good in us.” Faith then, is knowing that we cannot author good in our own power. Only God, by grace worked through us, can author good in us.”
Phil 2:13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
“The whole work of salvation – the whole work of obedience- the whole work of faith itself residing within us – is His.”
Heb 12:2 For it is God who is the author and finisher of our faith
It is not until we abandon all notions that we play a role in our salvation that we truly see Grace for what it is. We cannot truly see Grace for what it is until we abandon all notions that we can author good works in our power in our day-to-day living. Until we fully accept the reality that all good works are God working in and through us, we will be living in error.
May the Lord enlighten us that we would see that He is our all-in-all. May the Lord move us to realize that all we have that is good is ENTIRELY from Him — ENTIRELY by Grace. We contribute nothing. He contributes all that is good. May we praise our great God of grace this fine day.
