Scripture in the Morning #32

Good Morning.

I found an interesting quote from A.W. Pink that I thought I would share with you this morning…

“God does not promise to nor does He give into our life the people we necessarily want. He gives us the people we need. To help us, to hurt us, to leave us, to love us, to spurn us, to challenge us, and to be used of Him to make us the person we are meant to be. And thinking outside ourselves, these same people are people who, at some level, need us in that we are meant to bless them in the Lord.” A.W. Pink

Interesting quote. So…

He seems to suggest to us that no matter who it is that the Lord places (or allows) to be in our lives – that that person is someone that is meant to be there as part of God’s plan for us and for them. I suppose this flows from Romans 8:28 (and verses like it)…

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Perhaps what Pink is trying to do is encourage us. Part of his point, I surmise, is to get us to consider that even those persons in our lives that are tough to get along with – or even people who were flat out very, very difficult and painful for us to deal with – are, in fact, people God uses to bless us. Perhaps too, these very same people – even if we struggle with them – are people we can be used to bless.

Contentment with what God gives us – and with who God gives us – is something we all need. So may we learn from Paul…

Philippians 4:11-13 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
