Scripture in the Morning #8

Good Morning.

Who are we?

1 Peter 2:9,10 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

We have already addressed the reality that we were called out of darkness by God’s Grace in Christ – having been saved by grace and grace alone. What is next is where Grace placed us. We have been transferred from a darkness we could not escape and God placed us into the Marvelous Light of Christ – again by God’s Grace and God’s Grace alone.

OK. What does it mean that we exist in the light of Christ?

When we were saved by Grace – when God caused us to be Born Again – God placed the Holy Spirit within us. Opinion? No. It is from God’s Word (in many places) including…

Eze. 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.

How does God “cause you” to walk in His statutes? This is huge!!!!!!!!!

First, God does not “force” us to follow His statutes. This is because He determines what we desire in the realm of what is good. If I wanted you to eat liver, and you hate liver, then I can get you to eat it only if I externally forced you (or bribed you). Now if God wanted you to eat liver He would simply instill within you the desire to eat liver — He would give you a love for the taste of liver and implant within you an irresistible hunger for liver. Because you now love what you once hated — you now love liver — you will eat it ravenously. No forcing is involved. You (and I) once had no interest in God when we were spiritually dead and lost in the darkness (comfortably numb). God, by Grace, then instilled within you the desire to love Him — He gave you a ravenous hunger for Him and He drew you to His Word and you read it (or heard it from someone) and you ate — that is, you believed. There is no compulsion or forcing involved. God, nevertheless, caused you to follow His greatest statute — to love God with all your, heart, mind and soul. He caused you to love and believe upon His Son, Jesus our Savior – a great and perfect gift from above that declares His great Glory and through which you infinitely benefit.

This is the Light of Christ that resides in you now. Once you were in the darkness. That is who you were. Now, by God’s Grace, you walk in the light. That is who you are.

Amazing Grace. How can we not praise Him?
