1 Corinthians 6:20

1 Corinthians 6:20

– All of 1 Corinthians is Designed by God to Teach Us How to Live in a God-Honoring Way as a
Blessing to our Loved Ones…
– A Summary of Where We have Been Recently…
– Because Christ has Earned All that can be Earned for Us, We are Free in Christ in that we
have been Freed from Enslavement to Self…
– We do not Need to Serve Self Any Longer…
– Living for Self is Unnecessary, is Enslavement to Self & is Dishonoring to God
– Living for Self Comes at the Expense of our Loved Ones…
– While no Longer Slaves to Self we are still and always will be Slaves…

We are Slaves to God…

1 Cor 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,

whom you have from God? You are not your own

– There is Nothing Better than being a Slave to God – Slaves Live to Serve & Honor their Master
and our Triune God is Our Master!
– We Should Not Celebrate Our Freedom as if Somehow we have no Master…
– We should, however, Celebrate that we are Free from Self as Master but even more so
We should Celebrate our Master – God!
– Where Does God the Holy Spirit take Us from Here?
to the Concept of Declaring God’s Glory in our Life…
1 Cor 6:19,20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a
price. So declare God’s glory in your body.

– We Talk About God’s Glory All the Time But…

How Often Do We Talk About Declaring God’s Glory in a Practical Way?

– How do we Declare God’s Glory?
Way #1: Admitting We are Sinners to: God & Others…
1 John 1:8,9 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we
confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness…

– How Does Confessing our Sin to God Declare God’s Glory?
– it Places us in the Proper Position of Needing Mercy
– it Places God in the Proper Position in Our Thinking as Our Master
– it Promotes a Right Heart Attitude to Love the Lord by Serving Others…
James 5:16a Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you

may be healed.

– How Does Confessing our Sin to God Declare God’s Glory?
– it Teaches Others that God Alone is Good
– it Teaches Others that God is a God of Forgiveness
– it Promotes in Others that they Too Need to Depend Upon God’s Mercy & Forgiveness…
– How do we Declare God’s Glory?
Way #2: Openly Confess to our Struggle with Sin Before God and Others…
Rom 7(exc) For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the
very thing I hate… 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want
is what I keep on doing. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me
from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

– What is the Key to Victory in our Struggle with Sin? Physical Death
– How Does Confessing our Struggle with Sin to God Declare God’s Glory?
– it Places our Entire Hope in God and His Grace to Deliver Us
– it Moves Us Away from Depending Upon Self & Moves Us to Depend More on the
Lord…

– How Does Confessing our Struggle with Sin to Others Declare God’s Glory?
– it Moves Others to See the great Mercy of God
– it Moves Them Away from Depending Upon Themselves & to Depend More on the
Lord…

– A Consideration: If You are Not Struggling with your Thought Life and Attitude then you have a
Major Problem… Struggling with Sin is Great Sign of God at Work in Us…
– How do we Declare God’s Glory?
Way #3: Defer All Credit to God and Never Take Credit for What God Accomplishes

Through Us…

John 17:4 Father, I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me

to do.

– Jesus Did Everything for the Glory of His Father and the Benefit of Others…and in it all
He drew No Attention to Himself…
– This is the infinite Humility we Have to Aspire to… may the Lord Humble us
Matt 6:3b …do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing
Phil 2:13 For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
– How Does Deferring All Credit to God Declare God’s Glory?
– it Moves We & Others to See the Great Grace of God at Work through Us…
– it Moves Others to praise & Thank God…
– So, what Do We Do Now?
– Pray that the Lord Moves Us to Confess our Sin
– Pray that the Lord Moves Us to See Our Struggle with Sin as a Blessing that Draws Us to
Him…

– Pray that the Lord Moves us to Give All Credit for All that is Good To Him…
