Philippians 2:1-7a

Phil 2:1,2             So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

–              Paul takes Joy in seeing others Blessed and in seeing others unified in Faith…

–              Much like a Parent who Revels in seeing their child prosper… we should take Joy in seeing our Brothers & Sisters in the Lord Prosper…

–              The Christian Life then is Joyous; We Enjoy:

–              God’s blessings and Grace as they are imparted to us

–              the Lord taking the Love and Grace He gave us and moving us to share that Love & Grace

–              seeing others blessed by the Love & Grace the Lord gave others through us

–              Dwelling upon Christ should elicit from us:

Encouragement   Comfort                Affection               Sympathy

–              By Sharing Christ with Others, the Lord will Grow these attributes within our Loved Ones:

Encouragement   Comfort                Affection               Sympathy

Phil 2:3  Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves

–              God is the Author of all that is Good Within Us, we should seek after His Grace in Christ that He would remove from us our:        Selfish Ambition &  Conceit

Please Lord, give us the Humility count others more significant than ourselves

–              Does this mean then that we should live only for others and ignore our own needs?

Does this make it wrong when we go to work  or pursue our education or work on our health?

Phil 2:4  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others

–              We are to look to our own interests… but as a secondary reality

–              Our Own Interests are After those of Others…

–              But our own Interests are Important — We have to use the wisdom the Lord gave us and in dependence upon His grace, navigate through the necessary realities of life…

2 Thes 3:10-12   If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.?11 For we hear that some among you?walk in idleness, not busy at work, but?busybodies.12?Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

–              We are to Trust our Lord to meet our Needs…

Phil 4:19,20        And my God?will supply every need of yours?according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.?20?To?our God and Father be?glory forever and ever. Amen.

–              A Proper Balance in Life…

–              Do not worry about yourself and your own needs…

–              God will meet those needs

–              therefore there is no need to be pre-occupied with self

Matt 6:30,31       But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you,?O you of little faith??31?Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

–              We should not be Pre-occupied with self, but we should take care of self — trusting God in it all…

1 Cor 9:25;27a   Every?athlete exercises self-control. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we?an imperishable…?27a?But I discipline my body…

–              Trusting God and using the Wisdom He gave us, we — in His power —  take care of ourselves but…

do not dwell upon self so that we are free to serve others with God’s Love…

Phil 2:3  Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves

Phil 2:5-7a          Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant…

–              The Model for Placing the Welfare of Others over our Own is Christ…

–              God the Son was Infinitely Humble and came to Serve & to Bless & to Unite others to the Father — this was His Primary Objective…

–              All that Jesus did was Sacrificial

–              All He did was for the Glory of the Father and the Benefit of Others…

this is the model for Living for us…

–              A Proper Balance in Life

–              We should take care of our own needs in the Power of the Lord with the Wisdom He has Granted and Trust that God will provide all that we need…

Matt 6:31-33      So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness and all these things will be given to you

–              Our taking Care of Ourselves Should be Designed to…Provide the context in which to Serve and Bless others to Equip us for Effective Ministry…

–              Meeting our Needs should not Drive our Agenda, Loving the Lord by loving and serving others should…

–              What a Privilege it is to be an Instrument of God’s Grace and to Watch God Bless those around
