Philippians 2:5-11

–              Philippians is a very Practical Letter where we are taught:

–  about the Meaning of Life               –  about  the Meaning of Death           –  how to live a Balanced Life…

–              There is Great Theological Richness in Philippians, some of the most foundational teachings on Jesus are in Philippians and these Theological Truths move us to Praise God the Son all the more…

–              Theological Truths are very Practical & move us to Praise God… and Praising God is the Center of all we should do… Praise is the Foundation for Living & therefore nothing could be more Practical…

Phil 2:5,6             Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped…

–              Jesus is in “the Form of God”            What exactly does this mean?

–              God the Father Refers to Jesus as God…

Hebrews 1:8       But of the Son the Father says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of  your  kingdom

–              Jesus refers to Himself as God…

Rev1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” He said, “who is and is to come, the Almighty.”

–              Jesus is Fully God…

Col 2:9,10            For?in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells?bodily,?10?and?you have been filled in Him, who is?the head of all rule and authority.

–              Jesus is in “the Form of God” What exactly does this mean?

It means that the fullness of Deity dwells in Christ Bodily…

Phil 5-7  Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,  7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

–              Jesus Humbled Himself to Enter this World; He who was 100% God and 100% man came into this Fallen World to place on Display the Father’s Glory & Unite His Bride to His Father…

–              What Motivated Jesus Defines for us what we should do in this Life. We need to assess what motivated Jesus in how He lived His life and pray for the  grace to pattern our life after His  motives

–              We should Consider the Agenda that God the Holy Spirit has as well — What motivates God the Holy Spirit as He resides within us should guide what motivates us…

As Relates to Others…

Phil 2:8  And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

–              Being found in Human Form, Jesus died…He served the Hell Sentence for each person the Father gave Him — He served the Hell Sentence for His Bride.  This is the infinite Model of Sacrificial Giving & in this we see the Infinite Love, mercy & Grace of the Son…

–              The Glory of the Son was on Display upon the Cross…

Phil 2:9-11          Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

–              His Name is to be spoken only with the greatest degree of Respect & Reverence & Awe. It is an Honor to speak His Great Name in conjunction with our own as we proclaim to be a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ…

How do we Respond to This?

1 Peter 2:9            But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the?excellencies?of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

–              We are who we are for a Purpose, We have a Reason to Exist… we Exist to Praise God, Enjoy His Greatness and to Declare His greatness to others that they would Enjoy Him…

–  Are we Currently living in view of our designed Purpose?

–  Do we really Enjoy thinking about and learning about God?

–  Do we Praise Him in thought, Word, and Deed on a Daily Basis?

–  Do we live as if we are in His Marvelous Light or do we live as if we are still in the Darkness?

–  Would those around us know that we are the Bride of Christ or do we live so much like those in  the dark that they would not know?

–  Do we live with the proper Focus?

–  Do we walk this world in love with the Triune God, Worshiping and Enjoying His Greatness?

–  Do we declare the Triune God’s Great Glory?

–  Do we endeavor to be used to unite others to the Triune God?

–  Do we Remember the Great Example of Jesus?

–  Do we seek His Grace to Live as we are commanded to live?
